The icy northern tip of Aurora Nova, Veltokken is an original Norse encampment which became a Dark Skies territory in 1984. It is frequented by tourists and hopeful astronomers, as well as new age waifs and hopelessly self-deceiving bird-watchers. The ice floe from the North Sea waters leaves marine temperatures  typically around 1-2° C (32-34° F) during the winter months near the inlet at Vonk Point. Icebergs are a regular sighting off the northeastern coast of Aurora Nova.

The basalt cove known as the ‘Buzzard of Aragon’ juts precariously into the North Sea, invisible to passing ships in the night, especially as light pollution is prohibited in this dark sky territory.

The basalt coastlines ending at Reachley stretch north as far as the eye can see. Which is not very far, due to the sharp crags in the fjordscape comprising the entire outline of Aurora Nova.

The fishing harbor at Molly’s Winkle, once representing the heights of the fishing industry, is now usually filled with the usual tosspot boating enthusiasts, eager in their vanity to show off their newest, fastest dinghies to the local tourists.
